Vagabond Manga Online is a Japanese martial arts manga series written and illustrated by Takehiko Inoue. It unfolds a fictionalized account of the legendary Japanese swordsman Musashi Miyamoto, drawing inspiration from Eiji Yoshikawa‘s novel Musashi. The series started its serialization in Kodansha‘s seinen manga magazine Morning in September 1998 and has grown to encompass 37 tankōbon volumes as of July 2014. Viz Media acquired the licensing rights, bringing the series to English readers in North America. They completed the publication of all 37 volumes by April 2015. However, the series has been on an extended hiatus since May 2015.

Summary :

The story unfolds in 1600, after the Battle of Sekigahara. Two 17-year-olds, Takezō Shinmen and Matahachi Hon’iden, survivors on the losing side, manage to escape pursuit. Vowing to become ‘Invincible Under The Heavens’ (天下無双, Tenka Musō), they find refuge with two women, but their path takes a turn when the Tsujikaze gang attacks, leading to a separation of ways. Takezō becomes a vagabond, wandering the world to challenge strong opponents, while Matahachi chooses to stay with the women. Upon Takezō’s return to his hometown, the Miyamoto village, to inform Matahachi’s mother, Osugi Hon’iden, of her son’s survival, he faces hostility. The village disapproves of Takezō due to his violent tendencies, and Matahachi’s disappearance puts the Hon’iden family’s future at risk. Accused of being a criminal by Osugi, Takezō confronts the situation.
